Can the unit be operated while plugged in to the charger?

Yes. You can operate the unit while charging the batteries, or even if the batteries are fully charged.

How long will the unit operate on one charge?

Typically in excess of 12 hours of continuous use. We once tested a unit with new batteries at full charge and they lasted over 18 hours.

What are the most typical errors of new operators of this item?

1. Not fully seating the quick-connectors until they click tight.

2. Getting used to separate pumps for vacuum and pressure, instead of a selector valve as is used on some types of testers.

What is the calibration interval?

The factory recommended interval is one year. There is no need to return the PS-525 for a factory calibration. Any calibration lab that services air data testers can do the calibration.

Is the display clearly readable in direct sunlight?

Yes!

How do I set the Baro scale?

The tester is pre-calibrated based on a reference pressure of 29.92″. You need to set the aircraft altimeter to 29.92″ so they are referencing the same point.

What is the shipping size and weight?

Shipping for the PS-525 is normally in a box that is 16x16x16 inches (40x40x40 cm) and weighs 28 lb (14 kg).

Can I get a power adapter for 220 Volts?

Yes, we will include one if this is what you need.

The display only has two lines. How do I see the VSI?

By pressing the Units button the operator can toggle the display between Altitude/Knots or Altitude/VSI.

Can the unit be used with external power while the batteries are installed?

Yes, but if the tester is turned on when external power is applied, the display may reset.

Does this tester use alkaline batteries or rechargeable batteries?

We originally produced these testers to be powered with a pack of alkaline D batteries. However, due to battery leakage issues, we have now switched to one 12 volt gel-cell battery. To modify an alkaline-based tester, you will have to change the wires on the power plug to send power to the battery pack for charging. This will not void the warranty. If you want a picture of how to mount a rechargeable battery, please contact us.
